Kert Upshaw was assigned the task this season of rebuilding the Mammoth roster. He did what he could in the draft, and played the hand that was delt to him at that point. Some early season trades, and some rookie placements helped form the basis for what everyone saw on the ice. His starting veteran goalie went out early in the season with RL health issues and he was forced to rely on a green rookie to mind the nets for his team. Some of the players he had hoped to make an impact on the game for his teams were not able to skate much due to RL commitments. But still he pressed on. NOT ONE TIME in the entire season did Kert ever let his team "get down" when they were behind. He lead by example to keep his team's spirits high, and the chat "loose" so as to take players minds off the fact that they were down(at times by close to 10 goals). He did his best to make sure that everyone that showed up for games got their playing time, and no one was ever left out of the action. My hat is off for you Captain Upshaw, and it will be my honor to skate with you in season 11.

Beautifully written Toni.....not once did he ever let us get down and he took all that was thrown at him with ease and grace. He was upbeat and awesome in team chat every game. Some of the things he had to go through and the changes he had to make sometimes...were hard but he still remained in good spirits. Our team was always in good spirits no matter what and he was the one who helped us, coached us and made us strong as a team....I look forward to Season 11 being on this strong team. |
