Hello and welcome! We're glad you can join up with us.

Some basic information about SL Hockey:

The league was started in 2006. Seasons last about 2 months with a few weeks break in between. We are the largest and oldest hockey league in SL. The first one that I know of had games at a place called Spittonie Isle at one point, but when I started playing SL, it had already briefly come and gone...but the existence of the ghost rink was enough to light a fire under me to get another one going! This was done with the great assistance of some old time SLH'ers, most particularly Weis Hickman.

Currently the league consists of 6 teams and we are in our 4th season. The teams are the Cobras, Moose, Ice Lords, Rebels, Whales and Wolves. We do not currently have a division specifically for European time zone games, although you are welcome to play and join anyway! Sorry about the inconvenient times. Also, there is a league in SL called EHL which does provide game times in more Euro-friendly time zones.

We do not accept independent new team formation. If you are joining SLH, you must be drafted (assigned) onto one of the existing teams. The reason for this is, we get about 2 requests a week for someone coming in and wanting to start their own team, and scheduling and league management would be nightmarish. However, new teams undoubtedly will be added as the league grows. The decision to add teams is a democratic process by league members when the majority feels the existing number of teams is insufficient for the number of available players. Captains are also voted in by peers.

I'm commissioner and we have a staff of other managers and captains all of whom can help you get on your way into SLH. Please check to your left "Meet the Managers".

You must sign up for this website before you can play an official game inside Second Life. We keep stats, scheduling and team rosters here, so we have to have you listed as an active player. Don't sign up using your RL name, please use your SL avatar name.

There's a couple things to please double check, in order for staff to make sure you get placed on the right team.

1. Go to your website Profile here. You get there by clicking the link to upper right which says, "Your Schedule".

2. Go into editing your profile.

3. Enter your Second Life avatar's name. This is so that we can recognize you as by who you are in game. If you enter your RL name, or other nickname, I will have no clue who you are.

4. Enter a brief bio including which team you are currently playing for. (If you're brand new and haven't been assigned a team yet, just write, no team yet.)

Give me 24 hours, and your account will be activated so that you can get to all web pages and post on other forum categories. I check for new unassigned players daily.

All the equipment you need is located at the rink in Jericho Hill. It is free. There is also a notecard explaining basic game play, and another with current rules. Please be sure to review both of these carefully. Orientation sessions will be held a couple times a week. Please watch the website and attend to learn the basics on game play. If you can't make a scheduled time, please contact me or an SLH captain or manager and we will be glad to walk you through an introduction to the game.

Thanks! Holler here in this forum if you have any questions!
