If you're just joining the league, first off we welcome you! Let me take a minute to explain how the league (and joining it) works.

SLHA was started in 2006 by a few real hockey fanatics! I started it on almost a whim, building a hockey rink at our island of Jericho Hill about a year and a half after I came to Second Life. There was, at one time, a working league at Spittonie Isle, but it had been deserted and I never got to participate or find anything out on it. So I thought I would give it a try. A scriptor, Alex Jevon, was hired and our first hockey script was born! Pretty soon, people started stumbling across it. Weis Hickman, Marjan Tomba, SpecialK Sabre and Ray Goalpost were a couple of the first folks hanging around helping me launch this. We had enough people for two teams, the Wolves and Whales, not too long after. We got a new script and played that one for a few seasons, and changed websites, building our league history. Folks come and go..just like in any online environment..but when you join up you will become familiar with some of the SLHA "legends"...Amazin Jacks..Lobo Rodriquez..Jato Rolland...Wilton Beaumont..to name a few. There's some folks still around from Season 1 and we like to hash over old times and enjoy new times. We've grown into 3 divisions, 12 teams, a well-recognized group with even our own fan base! woot!

Here's how you get started. Once you've discovered us in-game, be sure to join the group "SLHA (SL Hockey Association)" inside Second Life. There's about 60 groups related to hockey, so be sure you find that one that has "founded by Jack Belvedere" by the description.

Then, sign up for this website using the prompt at the upper right hand corner. You must be signed up for the website before you can be placed on a team. We use this website often for communication, scheduling, and stats. Once I have "activated" your name on the website, you will be able to read all the forum areas. I will also place you on a farm team. The farm teams are for new players to get accustomed to the game and feel comfortable on the ice before going out with the vets. This gives you more puck time and a chance to develop those mad skills. You can find your team assignment back on the website here. Then, check who your coach is (that's also here) and contact them to get also added to the in-game group for your team.

You can find the schedules for the farm teams here as well. The farm division plays in series with a length of about 3-4 weeks. Every two weeks, there will be a "draft" of rookies into the main divisions. You do not have to be in the draft if you don't want to, if you're not feeling ready or just enjoying the pace of farm division. Talk to your coach if you feel good to move on and we'll get you in the drafts.

Current farm team coaches:

Crocs: Naida Jewell and Fall Goalpost
Landsharks: Fury Aeon
Admirals: IPR365 Ah
Eagles: Allan Gudkov, Tiro Roogus

Currently, the main divisions are the North American and European. The North American division begins Season 5 in May 2008. The teams are as follows:

Cobras, captain Kert Upshaw
Ice Lords, captain Harley Wachmann
Moose, captain IPR365 Ah
Rebels, captain Fury Aeon
Whales, captain Marjan Tomba
Wolves, captain Joe Grumiaux

The European division is going to be brought back after a hiatus. August Lusch is in charge of this, and we will announce when things are GTG there. It will probably be a little while longer. This division plays its games at Euro-friendly times and consists of two teams, the Ravens and the Foxes. Be sure to let August and I know if you want to play specifically in the European division.

N.A. game times and days are Tuesdays, Thursdays, some Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The weekend games are held in the afternoons (SL time zone) and weeknight games 5-7:30 pm SL time. You can check this website for all the days and times.

All equipment is available at the rinks for $0. We have two rinks starting in Season 5, at the islands of Jericho Hill and Magaza. There are instructions inside the boxes, and if you need assistance, just ask any SLHA member, there's usually folks hanging around.

You do not need to have RL hockey experience or even be an expert. We welcome and have all skill levels.
